Propane fire causes neighborhood evacuation

Last week, a propane explosion that began a fire caused a Philadelphia neighborhood to be evacuated.

According to fire officials, the accident began at Scully Welding Supply Co. when an employee dropped a propane tank causing it an other small propane tanks to explode.

Fire crews arrived at the scene and were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the two large propane tanks. It took nearly three hours to get the fire under control and residents were to remain out of their homes from nearly six hours.

Fuel tank explodes near airport in Monroe County

Two people were injured after a fuel tank exploded near the Rochester International Airport.

Officials have said that the cause of the accident is still under investigation but it is known that the 24-year-old man was driving the truck received second-degree burns to his hands and face in the accident and that a 20-year-old employee was also injured. The 24-year-old man is said to be in stable condition.

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. but was extinguished shortly after. Air traffic was suspended for an hour and areas of the airport and other local businesses were evacuated after the explosion.

Electrical blast in Miami injures two

An electrical explosion at the SunTrust building in downtown Miami injured two Florida Power & Light employees on Aug. 17.

The workers were working on an electrical panel in a vault when something sparked the electrical explosion. Maintenance workers near by saw the smoke and immediately called fire crews.

One worker suffered burns to his face while the other suffered  burns to his leg and they were both transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital. The explosion caused a power outage and workers were sent home.

Penn. refinery still closed after fatal blast

The refinery at a Pennsylvania zinc plant is still closed after a fatal workplace explosion that killed two workers. Investigators are still searching to find the cause of the blast.

The plant is in Monaca, 25 miles from Pittsburgh, where two men died of smoke inhalation after the explosion. The company and officials from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are both looking into the cause of the accident. In an inspection that began in March, OSHA cited the company with 10 violations, two involved workplace noise problems.

Fatal Connecticut blast plant faces $16.6 million in fines

Last week, federal safety officials proposed $16.6 million in fines to the plant where the fatal explosion killed six workers in Connecticut.

Safety officials determined that the company disregarded safety procedures that are supposed to be put in place to protect workers. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration found that there were 371 accusations of workplace violations that were seen in the blast that occurred on February 7.

The explosion occurred when workers were using natural gas to clean debris out of pipes. Fifty employees were injured in the explosion and six were killed.

Officials have said that they feel that the penalty matches the dangerous working conditions that the company had at the work site that lead to the tragic accident.

Construction worker buried after explosion

A condominium explosion left one worker buried under the rubble for almost an hour, he was later pronounced dead from the injuries he sustained in the accident.

Four other workers were also injured in the accident, but officials have confirmed that they are now in stable condition. The explosion occurred at a community for people who are 55 or older.

Fire officials do not know the exact cause of the explosion but they believe that the explosion may have been caused by a release a propane that was ignited by an unknown source. This is the worst explosion the Norfolk community has seen in over 12 years.

Man sues employer over tank explosion

A fuel tank explosion two years ago is leading to a lawsuit from an employee who was injured in the explosion.

The man filed the suit against Fuel & Lube LLC, Cortez Investments LLC and Cortez Enterprises Inc for negligence, malice and premises liability.The complaint states that the man has pain in his ears, knee, and head after the explosion. The suit was filed in Galveston County on July 14.

One killed, one injured in propane explosion

A 12-year-old boy was killed and his father was seriously injured in a propane explosion after the boy backed a dump truck over the cap of propane tank.

The boy and his father were working on their farm, Cherry Hill Tree Farm in Pennsylvania when the boy accidentally knocked the cap off of the tank causing a spark and an explosion.

The boy was pronounced dead on the scene. The father was then transported to the hospital with severe burns to his skin. Police are continuing to investigate the accident.

Gas explosion in PA injures 15

Wednesday morning, there was an explosion at the Clariton Works U.S. Steel plant near Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.  The Clariton Works plant is the biggest coke manufacturing facility in the country.  The facility produces around 4.7 million tons a year of coke, a raw material used in steel making.

The fire from the explosion burned at the Clariton Works facility for hours causing it to shut down.  Union officials believe the explosion was caused by a gas line.

14 workers at the facility were burned in the explosion, and another suffered chest pains.

Four firefighters injured in natural gas explosion

Four firefighters were injured after a natural gas explosion on July 5. The men were all released from the hospital and are on the road to recovery.

One of the firefighters, a 10-year veteran suffered second-degree burns to his face and hands. Nurses from the hospital have said that the firefighter has been improving and is now in good condition.

Investigators have found evidence that the natural gas explosion that injured the firefighters may have been a deliberate act.
