On April 5, a West Virginia mine explosion killed at least twenty five workers. Four miners are still believed to be trapped deep within the mountainside that the mine was located in, and rescue efforts have proved futile so far. President Obama has asked for prayers for those killed and their families as well as for the rescue workers.
Last year, the mining company that owns the mine was fined millions of dollars for failing to regulate levels of toxic gas.
Only eleven of the deceased workers have so far been identified, leaving many to wonder if their loved ones are amongst those believed to still be alive in the mine.
Many are blaming this tragedy on the mining company for failing to maintain acceptable working conditions in the mine and allowing safety standards to slip.
