Auto shop worker killed in explosion

An auto shop worker was killed in an explosion outside of a muffler shop in Westmont, Illinois. The accident occurred in late April and created such a powerful blast that neighboring businesses shook.

The worker was an employee at Midas Auto Services and was welding outside of the shop when welding sparks ignited chemical vapors in a 55-gallon barrels. Debris was forced into the air during the blast and struck the 28-year-old worker. The man suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The local police department along with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the accident to find the exact cause of the explosion.
