Oil rig explosion off coast of Lousiana injures twelve

An oil rig explosion off the coast of Lousiana left 12 employees injured and 11 or 12 more missing. The rig is operated by the Transocean Deepwater rig and is leased to the by British Petroleum (BP).

Twelve employees required medical transport and seven were said to be critically injured. The rig, which can function in up to 8,000 feet of water, had 126 people on the rig when the explosion occurred. Eleven or twelve of the employees are still being searched for by rescue crews. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time but a full investigation of the incident is expected to be underway.
