Posted on July 16th, 2010 No Comments

Wednesday morning, there was an explosion at the Clariton Works U.S. Steel plant near Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.  The Clariton Works plant is the biggest coke manufacturing facility in the country.  The facility produces around 4.7 million tons a year of coke, a raw material used in steel making.

The fire from the explosion burned at the Clariton Works facility for hours causing it to shut down.  Union officials believe the explosion was caused by a gas line.

14 workers at the facility were burned in the explosion, and another suffered chest pains.
