Posted on August 9th, 2010 No Comments

Last week, federal safety officials proposed $16.6 million in fines to the plant where the fatal explosion killed six workers in Connecticut.

Safety officials determined that the company disregarded safety procedures that are supposed to be put in place to protect workers. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration found that there were 371 accusations of workplace violations that were seen in the blast that occurred on February 7.

The explosion occurred when workers were using natural gas to clean debris out of pipes. Fifty employees were injured in the explosion and six were killed.

Officials have said that they feel that the penalty matches the dangerous working conditions that the company had at the work site that lead to the tragic accident.

Natural gas explosions can cause serious injury to all employees involved, our thoughts are with the friends and family of the victim.
