Artesia refinery fined over $700,000 after fatal explosion

The Navajo Refining Company has been fined $707,000 after the fatal storage tank explosion that occurred on March 2 at the company’s plant in Artesia, N.M.

In the explosion, two workers were killed and two were critically burned. The plant works to process crude oil into jet fuel, gasoline and diesel fuel. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined the company after finding one “serious” violation and 10 “willful” violations.
