A two-alarm refinery explosion injured one employee at the Evergreen Oil plant in Newark.
Firefighters responded to the call at 5:30 a.m. and had the fire under control in 15 minutes. The explosion occurred when the heat exchanger malfunctioned.
The heat from the fire then caused the hydrochloric acid inside of the tank to rupture. The injured employee suffered from a broke arm and was transported to the hospital as a result. This is the refinery’s second major incident in the past 10 months.
