Small Fire at Chevron Refinery

There was a small fire at El Segundo Chevron Refinery on Jan. 5.

The fire was at the seal of an above- ground tank that hold sour, processed water in the middle of the site. Fire crews responded around 1:30 a.m. The crews began to extinguish the fire by placing a mixture to seal the tank. The smell from the fire became a problem to people who lived near.

Fire Contained at ConocoPhillips Refinery

On Dec. 24, there was a fire at a ConocoPhillips refinery when the storage tanks caught fire.

The fire was extinguished before 6 p.m. but fire crews remained there over night as a precautionary measure. The storage tank contained asphalt, and the cause of  the fire is not yet known and will be thoroughly investigated. Secondary containment devices kept the tank’s contents from spreading and helped contained the fire.

Another Fire At Texas Valero Plant

At 5 am on Dec. 24, a fire broke out at a Valero energy refinery plant in Texas City. This is the second time this month there has been an explosion at the plant.

No one was hurt in this fire because emergency responders were able to put the main fire out in about 15 minutes. Earlier this month a worker was killed at this plant after a boiler failed. Neighbors to the area are becoming concerned. The two incidents are happened in different locations, but both are still being investigated.

Refinery Explosion in Utah

An explosion in Silver Eagle oil refinery in Woods Cross damaged 100 homes. Luckily, no one was killed or seriously injured in the explosion.

The U.S. Chemical Safety Board released preliminary findings from the explosion said that the Silver Eagle Plant had serious deficiencies in the program that monitors the mechanical integrity of the plant. A 10-inch pipe carrying hydrogen gas failed and a nearby ignition source caused the pipe to explode.

Refinery Explosion in Texas Kills One

Valero Energy Corp’s Refinery in Texas City, Texas killed one and injured two.

The company called the event a boiler failure. The cause of failure is under investigation along with the extent of the damage to the refinery unit. Officials say that there no environmental impact on the Texas City area from the boiler failure.

Fire at Port Author refinery

There was a fire and explosion at the Motive Enterprises LLC  refinery in Port Arthur, Texas. The explosion shut down the hydrogen unit but there were no injuries.

The accident happened 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning in a hydrogen plant. A spokeswoman said that the emergency systems worked effectively and contained the fire quickly.

There were 10 employees present when the fire erupted, but no one was hurt. The cause of the fire is still yet to be known.
