Michigan gas explosion takes the lives of two

Posted on January 7th, 2011 No Comments

On December 29th, a tragic gas explosion took the lives of two people at the Franks Furniture store in Wayne, Michigan.  Currently, reports indicate that executives at the store knew about the gas leak two and a half hours before the explosion, but were unable to locate it.

Investigators sent an 8-foot section of the gas pipe to a lab to be looked at and to determine when the pipe was damaged.  The explosion is being investigated by Consumers Power and the Michigan Public Services Commission.

Firefighters from more than 30 fire departments worked to put out the explosion for 12 hours.  Nearby properties suffered damage from the explosion and the store’s owner, Paul Franks, was taken to the University of Michigan Trauma Burn Center in serious condition.

Our utmost sympathies go out to the families and friends of those lost in this tragic accident.
